Andy: Re: Selling Dell for portfolio adjustment My guess is that its common and appropriate this week, with taxes due in 2001. I have 3 'lots' of Dell- 1 at avg cost of $0.27, 1 at avg cost of $10, and 1 at avg of $36 bgt this year. Will hold the first 2 lots forever(hehe), but the last is up for sale. I have considered selling it because one could earn its total value with a few days of investment (calls)in some of the stocks you mentioned. A preferred move for LT Dell shareholder would be to rise $5/mo reaching ~ $100 in August. Else the stock gets ahead of itself. The MM's wouldn't like that, so will try to create volatility. I think the analysts are too chicken to knock either Dell, cpq, or the e-business stocks because they don't know what the Christmas/ y2k trade was like(amzn done good)g. The investment community would not soon forget a bad call on a major stock by a respected analyst like D. Niles. They have demonstrated all summer how they love to 'take Dell down'. But IMO its too risky, safer to try to move Dell up or just sit on present estimates. But if the analysts start playing games again that may trigger me to move one lot of Dell into more stocks similar to what you bought. I like Q, Jdsu, Yhoo, vrts, vrsn,vign- stuff like that. Hmmmm... Nas not bad at minus 750 tonight Sig |
