And from the Globe and Mail under comment (p12)

JDS headed toward technology's elete membership list.

You have to feel some sympathy for JDS Uniphase - the company keeps splitting its shares and the market keeps driving them right back into nosebleed territory. The fiber-optics equipment maker said yesterday that its board of directors has approved a two-for-one split of its common shares. It's the third split since July - and the latest one took effect only last week. Even with the splits, the stock is at dizzying heights for the retail investor - the shares jumped $16.69 (U.S.) to $188 on the Nasdaq Stock Market yesterday. Is JDS too big a bite for the small player? Conventional wisdom says yes. The stock is up more than ten fold from last year, and each share is still extremely pricey for most small fry. Conventional wisdom is wrong and has a short memory, to boot. Gains for retail investors have been pooh-poohhed over the past year, even as the stock continued to rise, month after month, split after split. It's clear that there is ample room for the stock to continue it charge: JDS's fiber-optic products are at the heart of a market headed for explosive growth, putting it within spitting distance of the elite club of technology firms that dominate their respective niches. If it does become a member, the company is laughably undervalued right now.
