Kincade,

The industry may end up getting behind Lucent's EPAC as the format of choice. Micro OS is one of the reasons that Lucent chose EDIG to design their player. Lucent's EPAC requires a file management system in order to work properly in a PDAs, and EDIG has the only software system robust enough to handle Lucent's codec. I know of two other systems from Datalight and M-Systems that are hardware proprietary, but neither company has a player in this market.

Codec choice is not the only hurdle for the music industry, the other is Digital Rights Management. It's possible that Lucent chose EDIG's software based system for its ability to upgrade through the Internet. Micro OS allows OEMs to develop products for an evolving and uncertain market.

I hope this helps.

Kerry
