El One,

Your post made it a great story. Thanks!

My Mom, not only an artist, was a teacher. She taught English as a second language to family's (usually IBM) that came over to the U.S. with the employee contracted at various companies. They would have 1-2 year sentences, uh.. I mean contracts and their wives and children would have to learn to cope and speak in this fine outstanding country of ours.

They had some of the basics because English is required just about every where and in every school, but what they learned there in their country made no sense here. My Mom taught them slang. Not proper English but how to speak and understand what us true blooded Americans were talking about. They had the basic form of the Queens English but my Mom had them talking American. This took the greatest patience but she was the most giving and open person. She taught with laughter, art and took them every where. Never was their's a classroom experience. They came to dinner and shared holiday's. During their time in the U.S they were family. She loved her job and they loved her. She was by their account the most influential person at that time in their lives, maybe ever.

It was good for me because I met many different people from different cultures and they all through my Mom's kind ways became good friends.
When she passed away I had to call all of those that she kept in touch with and tell them that Marj was gone, there wasn't one dry eye.

I hope I learned some things from her. Your post made me think that maybe I have. Thanks El One, you don't know how much that means to me.

Jannie poo (my Mom always called me that).
