Hello DAYTRADER,

For several years now I have been predicting the next evolutionary step beyond simple "packet routing" ... the primary business of Cisco.

InterVU and other vendors, IMHO, also recognize this fact, and have begun to install large numbers of servers throughout the Internet that can provide better distribution of multimedia - InterVU with a focus on live multimedia - using a variety of different vendors.

I believe that InterVU is working on supporting several types of multimedia formats ... from their web site:

INTERVU offers encoding for every major codec, including:

AVI
JPEG
Microsoft® Windows® Media
MPEG
QuickTime™
RealAudio®
RealVideo®

So they offer encoding services, and a distribution network. And you can add QuickTime to your list of formats ...

The key principal here is that a single "web site" is never going to be able to stream to millions of viewers/listeners ... that single site would have to have a *huge* Internet connection. Instead, the source will be sent to multiple "distribution" points throughout the Internet, and viewers will be "load balanced" across the distribution points. Almost like satellite distribution of video to local broadcasters ... it's the same model ...
