Kemble - re: "I've been told that things at CPQ are far worse off than what anyone may suspect and they may not survive at all"
I hear just the opposite, not only from the local CPQ employees (who are obviously bigoted) but also from MSFT, Oracle, and other major players, who say that CPQ's enterprise business is much stronger than current appearance, that CPQ has a comprehensive strategy which will compete with the SUNW iPlanet, IBM WebShere, and HP eSpeak initiatives, have a very strong position with MSFT around Win2000 activities, and will be the company to beat in 2000. The 3Q99 Enterprise group financials support this - CPQ's enterprise group considered as a business was a much better financial performer than SUNW, with 50% greater revenue, and 50% better profitability.
In the areas where CPQ competes with DELL, DELL still enjoys substantial advantages and I expect that DELL will continue to take commercial PC business. But don't expect CPQ to go away any time soon. |
