Lizzie, I am not talking cash payments from lobbyists. I think you will find that the law covering lobbyists in California is quite strict, and was designed to specifically target such things as free passes to an event, tickets to games, luxury box seats, a theater ticket, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even a drink. Forbidding or limiting these types of things has been found to be in the best interest of clean and honest government.

Your personal standards are not mine to judge and are not relevant to the discussion. Employment or consulting contracts often spell out what constitutes acceptable behavior. Some companies do, in fact, forbid attendance at such parties in the circumstances you cited. Others have no objection.
