Steve and Thread,

In reflecting on 1999 I thought it would be appropriate to mention the highlights which made a distinct impression on many and lifted SanDisk to the next level. I hope that others will also contribute to this list so that we can come up with a meaningful standard to compare with next January when we list the accomplishments of 2000.

1) The Memorandum of Understanding between SanDisk and Toshiba which contemplates a melding of their intellectual properties and process/manufacturing/engineering expertise in a single venture.
2) The joint effort of Matsushita, Toshiba and SanDisk to promote the SD Memory Card standard.
3) Engineering of the 256 megabit/D2 technology and the improvement in write/read speeds that permit penetration into consumer applications.
4) The decision to manufacture a SanDisk branded SmartMedia card.
5) The resilience of the Taiwanese team at UMC and the surprisingly minimal long-term impact of the earth-shattering quake in September.
6) The phenomenal efforts by certain SanDisk executives to help restore institutional confidence in SNDK after the Taiwan disaster. Completing the last round of financing before the January deadline for the Toshiba JV was truly spectacular.
7) The rapid acceptance of both CF and MMC in the Internet Audio/MP3 consumer markets.
8) The unrelenting efforts by Daniel Auclair and his team to defend the CompactFlash card assembly patents against those who have chosen to infringe SanDisk's formiddable IP portfolio.
9) Selection of Rex Dwyer to join in the investment group at Firsthand Funds.

and

10) The wonderful discourse that has carried us through the last year on this very Thread!!!
