The problem is routers aren't big dumb boxes - they're quite complex. I think Conner misunderstands the function. As for Msft and Intc - if you dig deeper you'll find that these companies are doing nothing with OIE. Microsoft was grandfathered in when BAY gave them routing code for Steelhead. Intc is a supporter in that they are incorporating NT code for IXA/IXP which has zero market share in the network processor space. Finally, Conner is going after small devices - which don't use routing today...what the heck for??? What, you're going to have a discrete IP for every device in the home that connects to the network? - NOT! There will be a gateway of some sort running NAT and that device is still not really a cisco device - it's a COMS device. NT's strategy is all screwed up here. What the heck are they thinking. Sorry, but I'm even less impressed after reading that article. It just looks like Conner is clueless.
