Here's the part I find most interesting:

These products that "will appear to be phonelike in appearance" (snuck that one by the editor) will not appear to be very phonelike in appearance if they expose Linux in any way whatsoever to a user. ("To use your EZ-WEB-APPLIANCE-PHONE-LIKE-THING, just type 'emacs' and edit your init scripts and resolv.conf files to make sure that your DNS parameters are correct after first carefully reviewing the editing keystrokes on the EZ-WEB-APPLIANCE-EMACS-EZ-REFERENCE-CARD.")

Will these devices rely on a disk of any kind? Sounds like a bad idea. If not, then Linux seems like overkill unless Intel whittles it down so it isn't really Linux any more. In which case shouldn't they use something else? I wonder what these demanding customers are doing in an appliance that needs something as bulky as Linux?

This thing sounds like a loser to me.
