PB, Thread, re: Intel Web Appliance
According to this mornings WSJ, you are correct, Celeron and Linux.
To me, the most interesting part of this is that Intel will now be selling Intel BRANDED products in direct competition with their PC manufacturing customers. How do the Compaq's, Dell's, and IBM's feel about this development? Not great, I imagine. Are Intel branded PC's next?
It must have been an interesting meeting where this decision was made. They had to weigh the anticipated reaction and options of their customers, against the consumer power of the Intel brand name. It shows a lot of confidence to step away from the marketing strategy of a branded CONPONENT maker, that has brought them to this level of success.
The only thing I question is their distribution method. If you want to get consumer mainstream, you need to go to the Wal Mart's and Best Buy's.
MHO, another interesting change that demonstrates that this is a very different Intel than it was a couple of years ago. You have to wonder WHO in Intel has been responsible for this new vision of the future of the company?
