Factory Orders for Nov. = + 1.2%

New orders for manufactured goods in November increased $4.5 billion or 1.2 percent to $365.2 billion, the Department of Commerce, Bureau of the Census reported today. This follows a slight October decrease. Shipments increased $4.3 billion or 1.2 percent to $364.5 billion, following a 0.4 percent October increase. This is the sixth increase in the last seven months.

Construction Spending for Nov. = + 2.6%

Construction put in place during November 1999 was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $715.1 billion, 3 (+/-5) percent above the revised October estimate of $697.3 billion, according to the U.S. Commerce Department's Census Bureau. The November figure represents a 5 (+/-5) percent increase over November 1998.

During the first 11 months of this year $649.4 billion of construction was put in place, 6 percent above the $613.0 billion for the same period in 1998.
