Hello Manohar, the minimum lot size to buy 9984 in Tokyo is 100. As Jay says, it varies with the stock. The restriction applies equally to Japanese and foreigners. However if you own an odd lot, due to the company's distribution of free shares, the brokers will buy it from you but at a discount. In the U.S. it appears that Merrill Lynch will buy or sell you an odd lot out of their inventory. Their bid and asked spread is much wider than it should be. Some ML employees don't know about this and will tell you that you must buy 100 shares.
