I couldn't help but contrast Ayn's philosophy with that of the Shakers, who also believed in rising above mediocrity in everything they put thier hands to. But at the end of the day, Ayns characters seem to have no joy, although she tries to explain that they do, really, really, they do...it sure doesn't come across. And her sex and (dare I call them) romantic scenes are most interesting, from a psychological aspect. I can't tell if it is the times or the lady, but whatever the reason I've never read such dull non-sexual descriptions of men and women. Seems to me if you really wanted to convince people of your philosophy you'd make your protagonists more like the audience, like, human, for instance.
