I've heard the same about BB stocks, that's the reason for the disclaimer "under normal circumstances". But do market makers and hedge funds disclose their shorts in such a way that they appear as short interest in financial disclosures about a stock? To what extent can a market maker inhibit a stock that s/he has a significant short interest in from rising? Isn't it a blantant conflict of interest to allow people who make the market in a stock to short its shares? Or are only market makers who do not make the market in a paticular stock allowed to short that stock? I know how naieve I sound right now, but hey, how else do you gain wisdom?
