><>...TONGUES....><>
I would like to preface this study with just a few notes....
1.I know that this is a sensitive and somewhat controversial issue within the church. I am also aware of the kinds of things that are said by those outside of the church...My concern and focus, for purposes of this study, is for those within the church..."Believers and followers" of our Lord Jesus Christ.
2.I also know that there are many loving people here in this forum, and else where around the world who say they speak in "tongues"......I used to..!
3.This study is "Not" my opinion...It is the word of God, taken to a depth that possibly many have not considered.
4.The purpose of this posting is only to arouse, in all who follow it, a deeper desire to know more of God's word. And 5.That after much study by all we can discuss it in a way that is favorable to the word of God..and through it all bring Him glory...
Father I pray in the name of our precious Lord Jesus that your truths may be revealed to all of us...thank you
In Acts 2, on the day of Pentacost when the Holy Spirit descended on the 120, they spoke in all languages....and all of those who were present from all parts of the world "Understood" the 120 in their own native tongue....There was no interpreter for no interpreter was needed.. Acts 2:7-12 7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? 8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? 9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, 10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. 12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? (KJV)
Peoples from all over the world "Understood" them in their own language....This was a miracle of God...the HS spoke through these 120 to thousands of people in their own language. The languages of the world all present there at that time.....That is what Cloven means...to go out in many directions...
Peter explaind to them that "this was that which was spoken by the prophet Joel....so we need to go to the prophet Joel to understand it also.... Joel 2:28-29 28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: 29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. (KJV)
Joel was speaking of end times......Prophesy# 5012 In the Hebrew...to speak or sing by inspiration...under the anointing..to in effect teach....I would suggest at this time that you read all of Joel 2.. It teaches specifically of the return of our Lord...
Now when Peter said "this is that"..what he was saying was..this is an example of what Joel spoke of....an example, a taste of what is to come....
Remember what sets this event apart from what is spoken today is some circles and churches is that all of what they spoke was understood by all languages at the same time...with No interpreter...
Imagine yourself sitting at a United Nations conference and the representative from Zaire stood up and gave his speach in his native African tongue....and All who were present from all over the world "understood" him as though he were speaking in their native tongue...The Italians heard it in Italian, the Germans in German, the French in French, the English in English, and so on.....you get the picture?...Pretty Awesome....
So that is what took place on the day of Pentacost....."Cloven Tongues"....a literal Language understood by all who heard it....In their own language...no interpreters needed...A miracle of God..and for a very good purpose...
TONGUES..as spoken of by Paul in 1 Cor. 14....
First you must notice that the word "unknown" is in italics, which means it was inserted later ....it was not in the manuscripts...
1 Cor 14:1-4 1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. 2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. 3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. 4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. (KJV)
Remember "Unknown" is not supposed to be there....
Paul is teaching that if one teaches in a "foreign language" no one will understand him but God......If an English only speaking preacher goes to Mexico to teach no one will understand him, but God.
Paul himself spoke in many languages, Hebrew, Greek, Italian, Chaldee...and some others as well...so in V5..he says .(.Paraphrasing) yes , sure it would be good if you could speak in different languages I wish you could..but don't worry about speaking in diff. languages...it not the greates thing...just teach..that is the greatest thing..and in any case if you don't have an interpreter with you..than it is for naught. You are just blowing wind...not in harmony...sounds awful...like instruements that just clang..and clong...
V9..so also is teaching..if no one understands what you are even saying V10..there are many diff. languages in the world and all have their own place....meaning V11 so if I don't understand them and they don't understand me..then what is the good V12..so out of all the gifts that you seek ..seek that you may teach those within the church.... V13 make it plain so that you can be easily understood..also pray that you may interpret what you are saying... V.14..& 15..for if I pray in a foreign language..but am not sure what I am praying..then it is "UNfruitful...so he is saying don't just learn a foreign language to learn it...learn it so that you may also interpret it and be fruitful...in the understanding..so that you may also edify the church.. v.16..because if you are praying in Italian to an english audience they will not even know when to say Amen! V17..you will be able to say thank you God...but they won't V18..I thank God that I can speak more than 1 language V19..Yet..I would rather speakonly 5 words that you can understand than to blow you away with my foreign languages...and teach 10,000 words none of which you can understand... V20....so please be mature V21...read what God has said in Isaiah 28 starting at V.9..about how God will give Stammering lips to those who will not read the word of God precept uopn precept.... V22...Now Paul tells them again of Pentacost day..and the happennings there and the purpose for the miracle of God at that time V.23...again he reminds them of speaking in a foreign language and the trouble it van cause if those hearing it cannot understand it V,24..& 25 but if he can understand it thn he can judge it and accept it.. ............ Now the interpretation...Which is also a gift...we have all seen some preachers at one time or another preach the gospel in another part of the world...and the interpreter....is giving the preaching the same kind of connotations and body language as the preacher intend to convey.. for ex..if the preacher is full of fire and Zeal and he says "Jesus Christ is Lord of all"...and his interpreter quitely stands there and muddles with no enthusiam..."oh yea, and did you know that Jesus is lord ?.....this is not a "Gifted" interpreted....and the message is lost..... V.27....& 28....if there is No interpreter where a preacer is to preach in the language of the audience...then don't preach...cause they will not understand you...you might as well speak to yourself and God..
V.33..Because God is not the author of confusion.....
And there we have it my brothers....the word of God...Now what you do with it is between you and God...but before you do anything with it study it deeper and further for yourselves...
Now that day of Pentacost will come again..It will come again at the appearance of antichrist..and then James you will have a better understanding of why we christians MUST be here for that......that is where the "unforgivable sin" comes in....Luke 12:10 ...Mark 13:9-11 and you will understand very clearly not only why God will perform this miracle again...but have a true and clear ynderstanding of the "unforgivable sin"..and have no question why it is so "unforgivable"... I will try to get that study posted tomorrow...This is the AWESOME part of the two studies and you will see how they are so intertwined....
Love in our Lord Jesus the Christ Shalom..><> BTW...porque yo quierdo mi dios y El es en mi corazone..Mi y mi familia hace Quierdo el Dios....Vaya con Dios mi amigos..y..hermanos |
