JEB, there this a list serve on the Gorilla Game and several participants have been discussing Media Fusion of late. Here the best post to date on the subject by a David Wigglesworth.

-----------
There have been numerous recent failures of this type of
technology. The most recent was a test of 1.8MbpS. I
believe the project was abandoned.

The only widely deployed commercial power line carrier
technology that I am aware of is a company called Hunt
Technology which makes the turtle product. Turtle is used
to read electric utility meters over the power line.
However it does so at an extremely low bit rate. (One bit
per 30 minutes! )If you are interested their web site is
turtletech.com
I believe that they have a several hundred thousand end
points deployed.

Their network topology bears some investigation as the
meter module comunicates with a head end receiver located
at the substation. It is very difficult to get reliable
data through transformers. This is key for any data
communications over power lines.

For the uninitiated, getting data through power lines is
difficult. Noise, substations, power line control devices,
impedance changes all cause significant problems for data
communications. The utility industry in the US would give
their right arm to be able to provide high speed data via
power line. But guess what - so far the technical hurdles
have always been too great.

If Media Fusion have cracked it - and the only way I would
believe it is following a successful large scale deployment
at a *random* utility location - then they certainly would
have a highly sought after product. Otherwise I am not
going to invest a penny in them.

David
