My first post on this thread. I thought G* service looked entirely too expensive until I began planning a trip to Peru and didn't want to be out of touch from me aging granny, who is 96. (Just like you said Maurice) When I realized that I might be a customer for a phone that costs as much as my 1970 Kombi, I realized that there must be others with a lot more money than I have who are willing to ante up.

I also love the idea of calling my husband, "Hello Honey? I'm great sweetheart. Stop worrying. Yes I'm in Macchu Picchu now overlooking the ruins..." Beats the hell out of a post card. I'd have made more than the price a phone call, even a G* international phone call if I'd been able to put in an order to buy Q this very morning when I heard about the "retracement." Heck, I might not even go to Peru if I was worried about my margin or being out of control of my portfolio. Okay so I am a control freak. I also like to backpack alone, but my family hates it. I was (temporarily) stuck four wheeling over Thanksgiving 15 miles from any road in Mojave. My phone showed no signal. No problem with the G* phone. I could call every morning. I don't see me using 160 minutes monthly on a G* phone at these rates, but I want one. My friend sees wireless as a leash tying her down. I see it as just the opposite. And, what price can be assigned to freedom?

So in for pinch, now in for a pound. I bought my chunk of G*. Now where can I lay my hands on a phone?
