The following is an exerpt from the Barron's WeekDay column on tech stocks to buy now.

"Even some hardware companies might benefit from the additional spending. "You're going to have to
increase your hardware from servers all the way to routers. That plays well for Cisco and Dell
[Computer] and Compaq," says York.

At 28 5/16 late Wednesday, Compaq Computer is a whopping 42% off the high of 49 1/4 it set last
January. But its P/E of 26x the $1.08 it is expected to earn in 2000 is only slightly above its
long-term earnings growth rate of 20%"
