Hi John:

Nov. 11 quote by Doug Oathout, worldwide product brand manager for IBM workstations: "IBM doesn't use AMD chips in its workstations at present but will continue to evaluate AMD chips in the future." "AMD is going to make Intel squirm" he said of upcoming AMD chips.

Today's GTW revelations coupled with the foregoing Nov. 11 statement from IBM suggest to me that the "spry Athy" will be embraced by IBM (any many others)in the workplace with open arms on AMD's terms...that is when AMD is in position to guarantee supply (sometime in Q1)! AMD has now got it going...Their primary concern now is to deliver what is promised or conversely don't promise what can't be delivered! In the short span of 6 months, the "spry Athy" has remarkably climbed to the top of the heap! To stay there, AMD management must ensure, (and will, imho), "5 star" performance with respect to delivery promises!

All the signs are there to this observer that AMD will sell as many "spry Athys" as they can produce in Y2000. Business SKU's waiting in the wings and the evolution of voice, DVD(video) and music digital offerings will demand the superior performance offered by the Athlon in both business and consumer marketplaces!
