ship a line of DSL modems in February as part of its effort to become a bigger player in the
communications-equipment market.

Excellent move, IMO. DSL is starting to take off in this country, is expected to catch and then leave cable modems in the dust in a couple of years or so, from what I'm reading. Millions of installations by 2002 (from memory).
