Andover.Net Expands Strategy for Newly Acquired Linux/Open Source E-Commerce Site

Demand For Linux/Open Source Products Prompts Expansion of Popular ThinkGeek.com Site

ACTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 6, 2000-- Andover.Net (NASDAQ:ANDN - news), the Internet's leading Linux destination, today announced the expansion of its products and promotions for ThinkGeek (www.thinkgeek.com), the site for Linux/Open Source-related products. Product expansion will include books, CDs, geek toys and ergonomic devices. In addition, the monthly ad plan now calls for over 10,000,000 banner ads promoting ThinkGeek.com, more than double December's rate.

``ThinkGeek's gross sales increased over 700% just two months after our acquisition,' said Bruce Twickler, president and CEO of Andover.Net. ``When revenues increase that quickly, it's time to increase the promotion of the site and its product offerings. We are planning some creative promotions including a LinuxWorld tie-in and expanding the links from our high-traffic network.'

Andover.Net has over 2.4 million unique visitors each month generating over 50 million page views per month. It has more visits to its Linux/Open Source sites than any other company. In fact, according to Linux Journal, 51% of all visits to Linux destinations are to one or more of Andover.Net's sites. In two months using Andover.Net traffic as its base, ThinkGeek's traffic grew from 6,200 to 125,000 unique visitors per month and page impressions grew from 48,000 to 940,000 per month.

``The acquisition, assimilation and growth of ThinkGeek illustrate the speed at which a site serving targeted, high-volume traffic can contribute to substantial growth in e-commerce revenues,' Twickler added. ``People generally understand the Internet and how companies make money on the Internet by selling products and services. What they don't understand yet is how that applies to the Linux market. It is only a matter of time before every Linux company will want the traffic of an Internet portal and the revenues of e-commerce and services. We are the first Linux portal and are expanding our Internet sales and services as quickly as possible.'
