Glenayre Builds First Two-way Paging System in Europe
Three-Million-Dollar Network Will be Used for Two-Way Paging, Wireless Email and Industrial Applications
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Glenayre Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: GEMS - news) announced the signing of a contract with the Ukrainian National Space Administration to build an all-Glenayre two-way messaging network. The state-of the-art ReFLEX(TM) network, the first two-way wireless messaging system in all of Europe, will go into commercial service in the first half of 2000. According to Bill Edwards, Glenayre's Senior Vice President -- Worldwide Sales, the network will be expanded to nationwide service during the year 2000.
The contract is valued at nearly $3 million (US). The first phase consists of approximately 25 base stations, with an equipment list including the GL3000LR Wireless Messaging Switch, GL3200 Internet Gateway; GL3100 RF Director, GL T8500XR Base Station with Receiver, GL N2000 OMC network management, plus antennas, feeders, spares, service and training contracts. The Glenayre AccessLink(TM) II two-way pager will be the preferred consumer device.
