Weekly Jobless Claims = + 33k to 309k

In the week ending Jan. 1, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 309,000, an increase of 33,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 276,000. The 4-week moving average was 283,750, an increase of 3,500 from the previous week's revised average of 280,250.

New Home Sales for Nov. = - 7.1% to 865k units

Sales of new one-family houses in November 1999 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 865,000 according to estimates released today by the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. This is 7 (+/-9) percent below the revised October rate of 931,000 and 12 (+/-10) percent below the November 1998 rate of 985,000.
