In some Asian cultures, a departing executive sometimes is seen as a "sentry" that precedes a takeover.

Very interesting. My read on this was that given the problems with the RDRAM introduction and the possibility that RDRAM may not take off, he had found himself in a career-limited environment and accepted a position in the company that he had probably championed within Samsung. Must be an American point-of-view.
