Motorola Launches Its Latest Satellite Series(TM) Phone With Starfish TrueSync(R) Software Capabilities
New Rugged Phone Fits In The Palm Of Your Hand

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT - news) announced today the commercial availability of the world's smallest flexible multi-mode satellite phone, the Satellite Series 9505 portable. Loaded with new features, the phone expands the Satellite Series space-based personal communications products and accessories line for use on the Iridium© system.

Motorola's Satellite 9505 portable phone is considered an ideal solution for commercial and industrial markets, where extreme conditions don't always allow for consistent communications. In addition, the sleek, stylish and durable phone is 23 percent smaller and 17 percent lighter than its predecessor, is available in two colors and features extended talk and standby times*.

With the added option of one of several Satellite Series cellular cassettes, the multi-purpose 9505 portable phone supports both satellite and cellular service for flexible multi-mode operation. And maintaining the utmost in user convenience, both satellite and cellular operating modes are offered to the user through a single user interface. With the 9505 Satellite Series phone and service from a local cellular provider, the user only needs one wireless phone, particularly beneficial when cellular coverage losses are unpredictable. One-number cellular/satellite service availability assumes the user's area is covered by an Iridium roaming partner.

A complete communication device, the Satellite Series 9505 Portable phone combines global multiplicity with office efficiency. The phone supports a choice of 21 languages for user prompts and a headset jack and auxiliary magnetic antenna are included with each phone to encourage quick and easy hands-free in-vehicle use. For added convenience an Infrared port has been provided along with Starfish Software's TrueSync(TM) technology allowing for one-touch, complete phonebook synchronization* across the user's selected handheld and PC devices -- Motorola and Starfish are again combining forces to advance instant access to personal information.

Cultural sensitivities are also accommodated through VibraCall© alert, making incoming call reception as discreet as possible. Additionally, later in 2000, encryption is expected to be enabled by an attachable U.S. government class encryption cassette.

The Satellite Series 9505 portable phones can be used with most of Motorola's Satellite Series accessories originally introduced with the Satellite Series 9500 portable phone. Motorola wholesales and distributes the Satellite Series products and accessories through its global sales and distribution network, comprised of teams around the world in Motorola's Personal Communications Sector and its Commercial, Government and Industrial Solutions Sector, both of which are members of Motorola's Communications Enterprise. Local availability will be governed by type approval regulatory bodies. The Satellite Series 9505 Portable phone currently has both US FCC and European CE type approval.
