before my intentions are totally misunderstood, I agree with you 100% in this statement "But I am reluctant to put any animal on par with human beings, much less allege its superiority, without ironclad proof. Rather than exalting the other animal, I think the end result is to cheapen humanity......"
To put an animal, no matter how intelligent, on par with a human being without that ironclad proof, and I do mean IRONCLAD, is at best foolish, and at worst self destructive to our own species. But to also sit back and say that everything I do not understand, or everything that cannot communicate with me in English is somehow unworthy of my respect, (this next sentence are my thoughts only and meant to say what I would think of myself and not anyone else) to think that is far worse than foolish, it is the epitome of arrogance and stupidity and has been the downfall of many cultures and civilizations throughout history.
So we are in agreement of sorts on this entire discussion but with different words.
