$30 is pricy? In LA, $30 gives you about 100 minutes of weekday local cellular calls per month, plus 500 weekend minutes. Admittedly, the coverage is a larger area, but how often do you really call outside the area on a cellular phone using a basic rate plan?

If you can jettison your regular phone, as is intended by offering unlimited local service, $30 seems very reasonable to me.
