Did a little more digging on my S and P500 addition quest.
When QCOM was added on July 21/99, its market cap was around 35 to 40 billion. However, its sales were almost 4 billion.
JDSU is now on a rate to hit 1 billion sales soon but its market caps looks to head up much higher.
GBLX, which got added last year only has sales of about 450 billion and a much smaller market cap.
Neither QCOM or GBLX have the rate of revenue growth as JDSU, which is around 100%.

I also found a couple of other companies (recent additions)in "speculative" industries and sales under 500billion and small market caps.

Sorry if my commentary on this issue is getting too repetitive but i feel a strong case is there for its inclusion. Will S and P want to wait for it to reach 100 billion (now around 55 billion!!!!)before informing index fund managers that they have make a lot of room for this stock. The higher the market cap, the more difficult it becomes--and the more reluctant the sellers as we witnessed with Yahoo.
