ON DOW WIRE.Imaging Diagnostic Up 64%; Co. Says It Has No News

NEW YORK -- Shares of penny-stock Imaging Diagnostic Systems (IMDS) climbed for the third consecutive trading day and company officials had no explanation for the movement.

"We're just as dumbfounded as anyone else," said Chief Executive and Director of Research Richard Grable. "There's no good news or bad news that we're aware of."

The Atlanta medical-device maker is nearing the end of clinical trials for a mammogram that uses laser instead of x-ray technology.

"My plan is by the end of this year this product will be in commercial distribution in the United States," Grable said.

Though he couldn't offer specific revenue from the computed tomography laser mammography, or CTLM, process, Grable said the technology has widespread applications.

CTLM could be used to scan for fluorescent "tags" that would attach themselves only to cancerous cells. The tags - drugs that are injected in the body - are currently in Phase I or Phase II clinical trials depending on the company, Grable said. Imaging Diagnostic is teaming up with two major pharmaceutical companies - which he wouldn't further identify - later this year for animal trials on the tags.

Imaging Diagnostic shares recently traded at 2.44, up 63.6% from Wednesday's close. Volume was heavy at 10.9 million shares.
