Wow ... real drama on the thread this evening! Maybe this is an indication that a bottom has been reached!
Sparky: Like you, I'm a non-engineer lurker on this thread who relies on the graciousness and fabulous insight of people like Allen Benn and David Lehenky for my understanding of WIND products. I think you made the correct decision to hold -- WIND's recent decline has nothing to do with fundamentals, and everything to do with the market crash in small- and mid-cap tech stocks. The crash has been exacerbated by huge inflows of cash into index and large-cap funds, and out of technology, small stock and momentum funds. For instance, PBHG's Emerging Growth Fund -- a major WIND investor -- this afternoon suffered through a 28% decline of it's largest holding, Eagle USA Airfreight, which fell 8 1/2 to 21 7/8. Ultimately, this will lead to further redemptions, which may force PBHG to liquidate part of its investment in WIND, driving the price of the stock down once more. As the traders say, it's a nasty tape, but it will get better, and when it does, the stocks of good companies like WIND will rebound.
Joe Smith: I don't think David Swart and Mark Brophy are the same person. Although he has generally been pummeled by the tag team of Benn and Lehenky, at least Swart's critique of WIND has been based on fundamental issues relating to the company's products and competitive position in the marketplace. By contrast, Brophy prattles on embarrassingly about things like Book Value and stock buybacks and analysts without e-mail addresses.
Mitchell: Thanks for the Fiddler bio. I didn't realize he was a fellow Illini alum. Our athletic accomplishments are nothing to write home about, but we sure do produce our share of genius computer scientist-types. (You think Andreesen named his first browser after Fiddler's second band? Hint: It's not the one called Afterbirth.)
Allen: Can I get some of that guarantee action? |
