Gary - I was especially pleased to see that Diana Krall got a nomination for Best Album of the Year. Though if she wins (fat chance) I'm sure it'll mean that the chances of catching her at a small club will be nonexistent, which it probably is now anyway.

And I agree about Santana - I haven't liked all of his music, but I've always admired his style. Were you aware that he was apparently under serious consideration as a replacement for Jerry Garcia (at least according to the Deadhead message boards)?

And you won't get any criticism from me for your taste regarding the Backstreet Boys. As the parent of a 7 year old girl, I'm often forced to share my control of the car radio, so I do listen to some contemporary stuff. After 10 years of being assaulted by rap and whatever category artists(?) like Henry Rollins and Nine Inch Nails fall into, those light harmonic groups like Backstreet Boys are a refreshing change. And they're certainly not as moronic as The Archies and Tommy Roe (thanks, Dennis - "Sugar, Sugar"'s been going through my brain all day since I read your post. Now I have to find the antidote to drive it out - years ago a friend recommended that whenever you get an earworm like that, the solution is to play "Aqualung" at top volume).
