Doug,
you are quite the historian here. Certainly I have blabbed my mouth too much on lots of subjects, but in the case of this post, I agree with you that automatic fire is not necessarily the answer in a tactical situation. Effective fire is the answer, be it auto or semi. Conservation of ammo is an issue when you have to carry the heavy stuff. Control of an automatic weapon is an issue. Muzzle climb and recoil tend to destroy accuracy. If the issue is keeping heads down, then by all means spray, but have a tactical goal in mind. For most situations, controlled bursts and semi-auto are far superior in terms of accuracy and effectiveness.
Please do not get the idea that I am a battle hardened veteran, because I am not. I was just a medic who had to kick grenades out of his jeep on the way across Saigon.
I have been shot at and not hit, and that is good for me. I have seen enough of those who were hit to know that it is not the best outcome!
As far as your M-16, you can keep the finicky thing. I prefer something that works all the time, no matter what you do to it.
I do have weapons, but as far as carrying them with a full load of ammo and two canteens and a full battle gear, I figure my range is about 100 yards, so I will leave that to younger bucks!
My thought is that there is a better way, and I shall take that way if at all possible.
Peace to all, for war and strife are very ugly and should be relegated to the past!!
Peaceful, Jack!!
P.S--Some day, I will tell you the ironic thing that happens to most soldiers of the U.S. fighting forces, and most will agree that it is almost universal! |
