<< What I hate is that some have become enriched while others have lost piles via the same manipulative actions. >>

I agree with you. It's not a level playing field. My first gold investment got chewed up by the BOE announcement that they were going to dump gold on the market, which caused gold to tank. After I climbed back in from the ledge, I bought some more at the bottom and was able to come out of it above water after the CBs "limited sales and leasing" announcement. But, if we stop investing because investors, including ourselves, got burned by certain ugly or manipulated investments, noone would be able to invest.

<< Can anyone really believe some which were short(or hedged) at exactly the right point ... >>

I am convinced that gold is being illegally manipulated by governments and their CBs and their buddies. The US is saying, who needs a gold based currency when the US stock market shows the strength of the US dollar and it's economy. But, companies are getting wealthy by their stock appreciation rather than earnings.

It is all being driven up, IMHO, by debt driven increases in the money supply. Sooner or later the stock market bubble is going to burst from too much debt driven paper money. And then, we might hear, who needs this worthless paper currency when one can own gold.
