Greek Cash Registers Back to 1900

ATHENS, Greece (AP) - Up to 30,000 older model cash registers throughout Greece have been hit by the Y2K bug and are printing receipts showing the year 1900, media reports said Wednesday.

There are approximately 300,000 cash registers used in Greece and 10 percent are not Y2K compliant, the reports said. They said the machines must be replaced.

But Action Group 2000, the government task force coordinating Y2K issues, said the number of malfunctioning cash registers has not been determined. It said the 10 percent report was an estimate.(cont)
