What happens when there is no adequate way to estimate value, for example, when there is a speculative issue that goes bust in two weeks (the volatility on high tech issues can be crazy). Now, the transfer occurs as some kind of compensation pursuant to the option, and the stock enters my portfolio valued at $400 a share. In two weeks, the price stabilizes at $75 a share. Should I have to pay taxes on $400?
