A Merril Lynch research reported issued 1/6/2000 indicated that Merrill was very positive on CPQ's
strides. They were not yet ready to change their position on CPQ but are looking for the opportunity.
Plainly, Merrill thinks CPQ is turning the corner but don't want to stick their necks out. This is
coming from a brokerage house that recently hammered the PC sector. They must be looking at the
entire portfolio of CPQ assets and recent trends in business. Just maybe Q4 earnings is what
pushes Merrill to dive in. Just like these guys, they always wait until earnings instead of sticking their
necks out before. Wish I could have a no risk job like that!<<<
