OT freeus, here is what cocaine did for Steve Howe:

You know your career has hit rock bottom when you get suspended from girls' softball," we wrote back in April when Howe was barred from coaching his daughter's softball team. But we'd like to amend that statement to: "You know your career has hit rock bottom when you get suspended from girls' softball, appeal to the county superintendant who refuses to even hear your case, and then file an appeal with the state's Office of Public Instruction only to have that appeal flatly rejected." Howe may have been the 1980 Rookie of the Year, but his daughter's school didn't want him anywhere near the softball team thanks to his well publicized problems with drugs and alcohol. Howe asked the school board to reconsider, but they refused. He then appealed to Donna Maddux, the Flathead County superintendent of schools. She refused to even hear the case and so Howe filed an appeal with the state office. Well, you can add statutes of limitations to the long list of Howe's problems. Just last week Howe filed a lawsuit over a traffic accident that occured over two years ago, and this week the state rejected Howe's softball appeal, finding that he didn't file his initial appeal within the 30-day limit for administrative appeals of school board decisions. His lawyer wouldn't say whether or not Howe will appeal further, but we should find out sometime in the next few years.
