Advanced Digital Information Corp. (ADIC) will begin to simplify the network storage process next week with the unveiling of its Scalar 100 tape library.
In addition to offering a library that supports multiple components and storage network architectures at a midrange price, ADIC is working to offer storage-management software solutions that it's acquired.
The Scalar 100 can help with the administration of entire storage networks, including different types of media such as hard disk storage. It can back up and recover as much as 2.4 terabytes of data. The library will work with existing SCSI storage interfaces as a node on a network-attached storage solution or as a component on a Fibre Channel storage area network.
The Scalar 100 will also support a variety of tape drives. ADIC will ship a DLT-based Scalar 100 next month. The company will also offer LTO-based Scalar 100 libraries through a relationship with IBM.
"Customers will be able to upgrade the system themselves," said Marie Mihail, ADIC's product marketing manager for the Scalar 100. "They can install drives in minutes."
Pricing starts at $20,000; the product will be available next month.

Great news. The link with IBM will only produce more $$.
