Cogeco Cable Clean and In Sync with Leitch

Leading Canadian Cable Company Chooses Leitch DigiBus(R)
for Nine Off-Air Channels

TORONTO, Jan. 7 /CNW/ - Leitch Technology Corporation (TSE:LTV)--a
leading provider of high-quality digital and audio solutions to the
broadcasting, telecommunications, cable and Internet industries--is pleased to
announce that Cogeco Cable has selected Leitch's DigiBus(R) synchronizers and
noise reducers for cleaning-up received signals before digitization and
transmission for its Quebec Division.
Daniel Babeux, consulting director for technical services for Cogeco
Cable in Trois-RiviŠres, says "We have chosen the Leitch DigiBus platform to
clean up the broadcast off-air signals we receive. This has positive impacts
for both our digital and analog subscribers because our broadcast signals to
both are so much cleaner."
Cogeco Cable purchased several products from the DigiBus line, including
the VNR 3610 noise reducer, the ENC-3610N-CA analog output encoder and the AVS
3600E-12 two-channel analog synchronizer. These products, along with the
DigiBus genlock module (3611 GL), give Cogeco Cable's customers a signal
that's clearer and cleaner than ever.
The VNR 3610 noise reducer--a card module for Leitch's DigiBus
platform--removes unwanted video artifacts using advanced spatial and temporal
filters. Users can manually select basic modes of operation using a local
front panel, and in auto mode, the noise reducers automatically adapt to the
video content's specific demands.
The ENC-3610N-CA analog output encoder converts 525-line or 625-line
component digital or analog video signals into composite analog. The AVS
3600E-12 two-channel analog synchronizer integrates audio processing in the
same frame with video processing devices so adjustments to audio and video
synchronization can be made from the same location. And the DigiBus 3611GL
genlock module provides video timing information from an external reference to
the frame. All timing-related processes derive their signal timing from this
module's internal signals.
Cogeco Cable Inc. provides cable television and high speed cable Internet
service in Ontario and Quebec. It is the fourth largest cable operator in
Canada based on the number of customers, which stands at approximately
835,000, with approximately 585,000 in Ontario and 250,000 in Quebec. Cogeco
Cable Inc. subordinate voting shares (CCA) are listed in the Toronto Stock
Exchange.
Leitch Technology Corporation provides leading-edge solutions that store,
switch, distribute, convert, and otherwise process high-quality audio and
video signals. Applications for Leitch products span the broadcast, telco,
cable, post production, internet, and business-to-business markets. Leitch is
headquartered in Toronto, ON Canada with other key offices in Quebec,
Virginia, California, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Japan, Hong Kong, and
Australia.
