Glenayre Announces the Availability of AccessLink II on ReFLEX(TM) 25 Wireless Networks; Shipments By February '00 Two-Way Wireless Messaging Devices Get a Facelift; ReFLEX 25 Devices Boast Enhanced User Interface and Come in Colored Plastics
LAS VEGAS, Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Paris Hotel, Suite 664,
Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The Consumer Products Group of Glenayre Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: GEMS - news), today announced its long-anticipated two-way wireless messaging device that will run on ReFLEX(TM) 25 networks. As the world's leading provider of two-way messaging devices, paging infrastructure, and one of the premier providers of messaging and services solutions, Glenayre is poised to be the driving force that accelerates wireless access and information exchange on ReFLEX 25-based wireless networks.
With three nationwide networks now covering 90% of the U. S. population, ReFLEX is considered the industry standard for two-way wireless data. In addition to implementing basic two-way wireless messaging for consumer and business use, the new products will allow mobile users to interact with instant information, such as stock quotes, filtered e-mail, and airline flight information. With a new enhanced user interface users will utilize a new message log folder and improved text-method keyboard.
Getting into the spirit of the new year, Glenayre also unveiled seven exciting colors for the AccessLink II two-way communicators and computing device companions ranging from Red, Rose, Orange, Chartreuse, Green, Teal, and Indigo, which channel partners will drive into stores in Q2'00.
Gary Hermansen, senior vice president and general manager of Glenayre's Consumer Products Group, stated, ''With the carriers ready to ramp up their two-way wireless data services, Glenayre will deliver two-way devices for use on ReFLEX 25 networks this quarter. And, we'll do it in style, with the addition of cool new colored devices for active users, with a personality. It's an exciting time to be a consumer and a manufacturer.''
With the help of WebLink Wireless Inc. (Nasdaq: WLNK - news), Arch Communications Group, and other service providers, as well as several leading distribution partners, Glenayre plans on delivering the right combination of two-way wireless messaging devices and communications services the public expects from a market leader. With the extended functionality AccessLink II's now offer due to aggressive application development recently announced on 12.14.99, users have the ability to send, receive, and manage messages anywhere, anytime. In addition, Glenayre's device becomes a modem for a Palm OS device through its infrared port -- a powerful tool for the new millennium.
''We see great potential for the AccessLink II because, as a peripheral to the personal computer, it allows people to stay connected through wireless e-mail, instant messaging in near real-time, and vital information while they're on the go,'' said N. Ross Buckenham, president of WebLink Wireless. ''With devices like the AccessLink II operating on our nationwide wireless data network which extends two-way coverage beyond the traditional business centers, we believe mobile messaging will quickly become a consumer phenomenon in the United States.''
''The year 2000 should see substantial growth in wireless data and we expect ReFLEX 25 networks to play a prominent role in data delivery,'' said C. Edward Baker, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer of Arch Communications Group, Inc. ''We are delighted that Glenayre is playing a key role in supporting ReFLEX 25 networks and equally delighted with the expanded functionality and attractive look of the AccessLink II.''
