I read this several times, and then I felt so terrible for this person! It seems to me the future is filled with possibilities, even when we are old. I can't imagine a future where there isn't excitement or beauty or chances to give something of yourself.
My mother was amazing; even in the last months of her life, she was involved with everything around her. She took joy in the people who came to see her, and the flowers they brought, the food they sent. She had the ability to focus on small, perfect moments. In retrospect, how she died was her final gift to me.
