>>Citrix Winframe is a resource pig and poor engineering solution of making a multiuser NT.<<

Thomas -

We're getting off the topic here, but I did want to respond to that statement.

NT itself is a resource pig, even with only one user on a single workstation. It wouldn't be possible to make it into a multiuser OS without using a large amount of resources. You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but I don't believe that WinFrame was poor engineering. As far as it goes, the point of WinFrame wasn't mainly to create a multiuser NT. It was to allow remote users to run Windows apps with acceptable performance over dial-up or remote network connections.

I do agree that it was hard to get off the ground, and it did take a lot of iron to make it go. Implementing it required careful planning and loads of integration work.

In the meantime, Citrix's main product today is MetaFrame, which is the ICA add-on to NT Terminal Server (which was basically developed for Microsoft by Citrix). MetaFrame adds many features to Terminal Server.
