Cha2,

Of possible thread interest on "Wireless Data".

There is an article linked below (site might require free registration)that describes the latest maneuvering between Vodafone and Mannesmann, in Europe.

totaltele.com

Below are some interesting quotes from the article that in a general sense reinforce our confidence in our investment in Qualcomm:

"Vodafone said it would next Tuesday announce plans to launch a single, global Internet platform to meet sharply rising consumer demand, in a move to help swing the world's biggest hostile takeover bid"

"You don't even need to believe anything about wireless data to justify the current share price. But mobile data is going to be massive in ways I don't think many have begun to appreciate."

"With mobile phones set to become communications devices that can pay your bills, keep you up-to-date with news and even switch off the lights at home, revenues for mobile phone companies are forecast to surge"

An interesting sidelight of the article is that the Hutchison Whampoa, Mannesmann's largest shareholder and owner of Orange Plc in the UK, is the firm that is backing the emerging US national GSM network which will compete for market share with CDMA giants Sprint PCS and Vodafone AT & BAM.
