Hi David,

Assuming you have the cabling wired correctly, you have to ensure that the network card drivers are properly installed as your first step.

I'm assuming the system you are working on is a Windows 9x box that was hooked up to a Windows NT Server Domain network. That's why it's having problems authenticating you...when you login, it's being told to validate your username and password at the domain controller, which isn't available.

To fix this, on login, go to Network properties, and change the identification to Workgroup model, instead of Domain model (I'm assuming you're not using a domain at home). Make sure the Workgroup name is the same as the rest of your clients on your home network.

When that's done, ensure you are using the same protocols, and connection method (TCP/IP, 10bt half-duplex, etc.).

I would also take a look at the user setup on the computer so you can manually change the accounts/passwords to something less complicated than the previous domain setup.

One clue you mentioned, as that the link light on the hub doesn't show up for the cable hooked up to your computer...that's strange. Change cables if you can, and make sure you have the wiring right. It is an Ethernet card right?
