Chip companies are considering at least 28 major projects to expand or build new fabs in 2000. Of the total number of projects under consideration 47% are new fabs, 46% are expansions and 7% are described as significant upgrades.

Projects By Region: 50% in Asia (excluding Japan), 43% in North America and 7% Europe.

Projects By Chips: ASIC 39%, Foundry 29%, Logic 21%, DRAM 7%, Other 4%.
