In most cases the options also take time to get vested. Usually this is spread over five years. So, if you were granted 100,000 options , 20% would get vested on each aniversary date of the original granting. This would mean you could exercise, and sell, 20,000 shares after one year, another 20,000 after two years, and so on. If the stock rockets up before your options are vested, you can only hope the price stays up until your exercise dates. If they, on the otherhand, drop back down, you can only read the daily bid/ask and weep. Regards. |
