Who is this Dr. Simon? He seems to have a fixation with statistics. Suppose I were a doctor and had a reasonably sized group of terminally ill patients. Somehow I come up with a concoction that I think might help them and I give it to all of them. Suppose that in a little while all of them recover. According to Dr. Simon, that doesn't mean anything since I didn't have a control group. That is, I should have divided the group in two, given half the concoction and the other a placebo and waited till the placebo group had died off before I would be allowed to conclude that my concoction did any good. Statistics should never be used as a substitute for common sense. Thanks, Torben
