I have not positively confirmed the eps release date; this poster on Yahoo! thinks clearly, IMO:

<<<Earnings Surprise? by: cavegenie 1/8/2000 8:06 pm EST

Is it possible a major POSITIVE earnings surprise will be announced 01/14/00?
Here's why, back in August of 99, Office Depot announced second half earnings would fall below Wall Street estimates. ODP estimated in news release that earnings for the second half of 99 would be .38 - .40. Earnings for 3rd quarter 99 were .19, leaving estimated earnings for 4th quarter of .21.
HOWEVER, stock buy back by ODP had purchsed 36,294,500 shares BY THE END OF SEPT 99., and an additional 9,397,300 shares by OCT 14, 99., for a total buy back of 45,691,800 shares at an average cost of $10.69.
So that means when EPS is calculated for 4th quarter 99, outstanding shares will be reduced by over 45 million which should add .2 - .3 cents to EPS. Added to conservative estimate of .21, should be in the .23 - .24 range. Plus any unexpected additional increase in 4th quarter could push EPS to .26 - .27.
Surge in price appears to be just around the corner. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! comments?>>> |
