Richard, what I say next has already been visited by you and others many times, but I will make a point using myself as an example.
A few excerpts from you post follow.
[START]
...high ranking Communist Chinese general, who threatened to vaporize Los Angeles with a nuclear attack in 1996 ... Lt. Gen. Xiong Guangkai, deputy chief of the People's Liberation Army General Staff, will meet with senior Pentagon officials to discuss...
... fired nuclear-capable missiles over Taiwan in a clear attempt to intimidate an American ally, General Xiong was hardly the model of diplomacy.
...the general warned that the days when China could be intimidated by America's overwhelming military power were over.
"You could do that then because you knew we couldn't retalliate. Now we can. In the end, you care a lot more about Los Angeles than you do about Taipei."
... China had obtained nearly all of America's nuclear secrets thanks, in part, to the Clinton administration's casual attitude towards national security.
[END]
Am I worried ? Nope Am I troubled ? Nope If World War III started tomorrow, how would I greet it ? No Problem. Why ? No spouse, no children, disposable & unimportant rest. Folks in my family tree live into 90s. None of those cancer or heart or mind problems. Just your basic generations of farmer "stock". So at 54 I got another "usable" 40 years. My father's father at age 87 had a girlfriend, retired school teacher. "Still like woman" he would say in Polish. But WW III would prevent me from a outer space trip in 2033 to Mars, so I hope no WW to happen, but I'am sure terrorist will Nuke a big city like N.Y. in the next 3-5 years. I'am 35 miles west of Boston, so I hope the wind direction is towards east. Wind direction also important for those Bio... "bombs".
